Not such a hard life

This morning is not a good morning to get out of my cosy bed in the playroom as the boiler has broken and we have no heating. However both Molly and I make a run for the out doors to check on the squirrels. I am very interested in their daily lives and keep a close watch on them as they are so horrible to the trees and other birds, also if it was not for me in my place at the window they would eat all the bird food which is on a table just outside my favourite window.

By 10am we have bullied our owner so much that she has to take us for our morning walk.  Molly has already brought her one boot and two socks as reminders.  Needless to say I had not realized what a horrible damp, grey day it was and I am quite a fair weather terrier, the snow I love and can be seen going at my top speed through the flakes but rain is another matter. We get to the veggie garden and I sit down, this is no fun, however the dreaded lead gets put around my neck and that is that. However having seen Molly put up the odd pheasant my tail goes up, thankfully I have a long one as it never got cut off like some poor terriers have to endure, mine curls up over my back but if I am on a hunt it goes straight just like a fox. Maybe I have some fox blood!!!

My lead gets taken off and I am now free to give Molly a hand. Because of the miserable weather we do not see much else but I am happier now that we are moving along.  We do look a sight on our return covered in mud as I am so close to the ground, I am dumped in a basin of hot water and shampoo.  Molly has to be washed outside as she is too big for the basin!! What I do not like about this bath is I am now having to endure a grooming session as my gorgeous long haired coat has become very matted and needs attention.  I know at the end of this horrible session I will look my true beautiful self.  I am then rugged up in a blanket and left to sleep in front of the fire.  Not bad for a dog living at Chalfield.

We awake to lunch which for me has to be pretty special.  I have a chicken roasted just for me, known as the Ming Chic, sometimes Molly is allowed some but she will eat anything  -  I am very fussy and will only eat what humans have.

Life is not very exciting at this time of year as I don’t have all the visitors to greet.  I am sure they just come to see me and I do love having my tummy scratched by the children.  I even have my own chair next to the guide who greets all the visitors.
